Why is it important?

Capturing trailers, promo clips, and full shows is a great way to show off your work and get more eyes on what you do. Good video makes it easier to promote your show, get booked by new venues, and apply for funding. It also helps build your audience online and keeps your work alive after the tour ends. Bringing in a filmmaker means you’ll have professional content that really sells your show and sets you up for future opportunities.

How can this type of content be filmed?

I film live shows and dress runs, both offering an opportunity to capture the show in different ways. For a live show, I use a 2 camera set up — a wide static shot to show the full stage/area, and then a 2nd camera next to the wide angle which will have a zoom lens, to capture close up shots and follow the movement on stage. If you are having a dress run before the live show, this is a great way of capturing more dynamic, immersive shots, perfect for trailers, or an opportunity to get a third side angle to incorporate into a full show edit (if the show allows footage from two different performance to be synced easily enough).

Potential Deliverables

• Trailer content (1min + 30sec + 15sec) exported in landscape and portrait

• 2 camera full show edit (wide + close up) with opening titles and end credits

• 3 camera full show edit (either using dress run footage* or having a 2nd camera operator for the live full show capturing a 3rd angle.

*Syncing 2 different performance footage can be possible, but only if the show is pretty much set in timings and queues with music, so they can be edited together smoothly. If there is any improv or sections within the show that each time is different, this option wouldn’t be suitable.
